Tips and strategy for Mulo
Mulo mixes luck and memory. At first you move forward a little blindly. But since the right hole of each level never changes, every game teaches you something. Here is how to climb higher, faster.
1. Read the history below the board
Below the current level, the game shows every level you have already cleared, with the right hole in solid colour. If you slip down a level, just look at this list to find the right answer straight away. That is the golden rule: always glance at the history before clicking.
2. Write down your path
The right hole of a level is the same in every game. Take a sheet of paper and note the winning colour of each level as you go: green, yellow or red. Next time, you can rush through the first levels without a single mistake and save your luck for the unknown ones. Regular players end up knowing the whole sequence by heart.
3. Watch the colour streaks
The right hole is never the same colour three times in a row. If the two previous levels were both won with green, for example, the next right hole is either yellow or red. Your odds go from one in three to one in two: a small edge, but it adds up over a long game.
4. Don't panic on an empty hole
When Mulo sighs "Honestly…", you stay on the same level. You now know that one of the three holes is ruled out: only two options remain, and only one of them sends you back. Take your time before the second try.
5. Prepare for each landing
Landings (levels 10, 20, 30…) are the tricky moments: colours are hidden and a bad pick can cost you 5 levels, or even 10 from landing 50 onwards. Two useful habits:
- memorise the nine levels before the landing well, so you can climb back quickly after a fall;
- write down the position of the right hole once the landing is cleared, because it will be the same next game.
Remember that a cleared landing protects you: if you fall back onto it, the falling hole is crossed out and you cannot drop any lower.
6. Bookmark your game
Every position in the game has its own address. If you need to stop, simply bookmark the current page: you will resume at exactly the same level next time, with no account or save needed.
7. Play several short games
Rather than one very long game, try several quick ones. Each of them strengthens your memory of the first levels, and you will get further and further without effort. It is also a chance to discover Mulo's many expressions, as his face changes with every move.
